AUSTRALIA : Theiss gets A $60million tunneling deal

Publish Date : 27-Dec-2011

Theiss, a leading provider of construction and mining services, obtained a A $60million (Ł38.6million) tunneling deal.

As per this deal, Theiss will build a tunnel to link two gas reserves which are offshore to the plant on land. It will be a 1.2km long passing under the ocean linking two offshore gas reserves to Chevron’s Greenfield Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Western Australia.

The microtunnel will have diameter of 2.5m and will have 1.1m diameter pipeline to provide gas from Wheatstone to lago reserves. Tunnel Boring Machines will be used to excavate the tunnels and the pipe jacking method is utilized to push the pipes after Tunnel Boring Machines.

“Thiess already has a major role with Chevron in delivering its Gorgon LNG project and we’re delighted to be increasing our participation in the LNG industry. This is an exciting project for Western Australia and Thiess is committed to engage local suppliers and subcontractors which will in turn boost local employment and training opportunities,” said Bruce Munro, Managing Director of Thiess.

The company will soon start engineering and procurement works while construction works will start in 2013.
