INDIA : NABARD sanctions Rs 367 cr loan for states underground drainage networks

The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved a loan of Rs 367.98 crore for 84 underground drainage networks in as many talukas all over the state.

An official release stated that the scope of the projects includes construction of underground centralised sewerage collection, treatment and disposal system. Panchayat Rural Housing and Rural Development Department will be implementing the project. The work is likely to conclude by March 2014.

For the first time, under the its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), NABARD has given approval to such a large-scale financial aid.

The total amount of loan sanctioned by NABARD to the state under RIDF has reached a marked amount of Rs 10,297 crore. In terms of utilisation of RIDF loans, Gujarat is one among the top three states.

From the total RIDF aid, Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpasar Department, has availed 28%, the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board availed 22% and Roads and Buildings Department availed 24%.
