UNITED STATES : $355 million Air Force contract with Embraer in Jacksonville put on hold for lawsuit

Publish Date : 09-Jan-2012

Recently, a week earlier Air Force had selected Jacksonville for awarding a $355 million contract, which was accompanied with the 50 jobs, for developing airplanes for the Department of Defense. Now, the same has been put on hold.

Wednesday, the U.S. Air Force declared a temporary stop order for the assembly of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft by Brazilian company Embraer, that was to take place at Jacksonville International Airport.

According to USAF spokesman Lt. Col. Jack Miller, this decision was “due to litigation currently pending before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims\" in relation to the Light Air Support (LAS) contract.

For the project, Sierra Nevada was associated with Embraer, planned to deliver 20 of the planes to the Afghan air force for counterinsurgency operations.

After the Air Force eliminated their AT-6 from consideration, in December, Kansas-based Hawker Beechcraft filed suit against the USAF.

According to the Air Force, transparency was followed during the selection procedure and it hopes for the lawsuit to be resolved soon.
