Publish Date : 11-Jan-2012
The major power and automation technology group, ABB, has secured a deal from Electric Transmission Texas LLC for supply of electrical equipment which would enhance reliability, strengthen the existing transmission grid and even to boost the integration of wind power.
The deal is worth around US$ 50 million.
As per of the contract, ABB will be responsible for design, supply, install and execution of four static var compensators at two different sites.
SVCs forms part of ABB\'s family of FACTS (flexible alternating current transmission systems) technologies, that results in enhancing the capacity and flexibility of power transmission systems as well as contribute to the development of smarter grids.
Head of ABB\'s Power Systems division, Mr Peter Leupp, said, “ABB has a strong track record of delivering environmentally friendly SVC solutions around the world and we have a large installed base in the US. We are pleased to support the grid integration of clean wind power and help improve power reliability in the region.”
The project is scheduled for completion by 2013. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2011.
