Italy’s Saipem has received a engineering and construction contract onshore Saudi Arabia, from Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Company (Safco), which is worth around $600 million, together with “various increases in the scope of its work on existing onshore contracts”.

The contract is a lump sum turnkey contract for Safco V, the fifth expansion of the industrial complex of Al-Jubail.

The work would comprise of developing a new urea facility located around 100 kilometres north of Dammam, on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia, over a period of following two years.

Saipem will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and development of a new plant, having a daily production capacity of 3250 tons of urea, on the basis of the Snamprogetti proprietary technology, together with related utilities. It would also include off-site systems and interconnecting structures with current plants
