UNITED STATES : CFM International gets $2.9 billion LEAP engine contract

CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aviation and Snecma, has obtained a $2.9 billion engine contract from Norwegian Air Shuttle.

According to CFM International, this contract covers its new LEAP engines for 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and CFM56 engines for 22 Boeing 737-800s.

With this contract, Norwegian Air Shuttle has become the first European airline to place the order for LEAP engine. The airline has also placed the order for 100 new Airbus A320neos, for a total aircraft order north of $21 billion. The engine competition for those aircrafts isn’t completed.
