Publish Date : 30-Jan-2012

The balance of plant (BOP) construction contract for the 150MW Halkirk wind project in Alberta, Canada was awarded to Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES Canada). Currently under construction, the project features 83 units of V90-1.8MW Vestas turbines.

Halkirk project will be able to generate enough electricity power to serve around 50,000 average Alberta homes, once completed.

A subsidiary of Capital Power Corporation, Capital Power, has appointed RES Canada to be the BOP construction contractor.

According to Darcy Trufyn, senior vice president of Capital Power, this project is the first major wind project of the firm in Alberta. Trufyn said, “The expected completion date is the fourth quarter of 2012, and the project is one of four wind power facilities that we currently have under construction or in development in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta.”
