UNITED STATES : Skanska USA bags Metropolitan Transportation Authority project worth $87 Million

The Second Avenue Subway Systems project in New York City offered by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, estimated cost of US$ 262 Million, has been accepted by Skanska USA’s civil construction business unit.

The project upgrades is concerned with improving the current systems and facilities that will provide access to the Second Avenue Subway system, along with train signals, track, communications systems and traction power that will link 105th Street and the subway station at 63rd Street. 3 rail cross-overs are to be constructed along this route to help facilitate switch-tracking in event of an emergency.

A subsidiary of RailWorks, LK Comstock will assist Skanska to construct the track and systems for the Phase I of Second Avenue Subway project.

The construction is beginning in February 2012 and project completion is expected by the fall of 2016. The construction of Phase I of the Second Avenue Subway project is Skanska’s third operation. Skanska USA is a well-established development and construction company in the United States, with its headquarters at New York. It enlists the services of approximately 7,400 employees and its 2010 revenues were SEK 34.3B. It includes 4 business units such as Skanska USA Building for building construction services; Skanska USA Civil for civil infrastructure services; Skanska Infrastructure Development, which includes public-private partnerships; Skanska Commercial Development that includes commercial development projects in select U.S. markets.
