UNITED STATES : $20 million in federal funding for light rail construction
Publish Date : 18-Feb-2012
Federal construction funding of $20 million is been recommended by Ray LaHood Secretary of Transportation for a 3.1 mile extension of the Metro light rail line.
With this amount the light rail would be extended into downtown Mesa. The project forms part of 2013 budget submitted by President Barack Obama to Congress.
It recommends funds worth $2.2 billion for construction of 29 rail and bus rapid transit projects in 15 different states.
Already, Metro has received $35.5 million in federal 2012 funding, which has helped the project in progressing further.
By late 2015 or somewhere later during early 2016, the Central Mesa light rail extension project worth $200 million is likely to travel through downtown Mesa to Mesa Drive.
