Publish Date : 23-Feb-2012
$63 billion provided for airports around the country by the issued bill that all the local and state official hailed at, T.F. Green State Airport and Warwick\'s city council are said that the agreement would clear the way for a long-sought runway expansion project.
The bill was signed by President Obama agreeing to fund $63.4 billion over the 4 years and is expected to provide enough funds for the runway expansion in Green Airport said by Senator Jack Reed.
\"In order to have the kind of long range flights that will bring more airlines and people to Rhode Island, we need a longer runway,\" Reed said. \"Taking these steps will help our local economy, will help the economy of Warwick, the economy of Rhode Island, the whole regional economy.\"
Mayor Scott Avedisian said meetings are held in which the lawsuit will be dropped that blocks the runway expansion project. The meetings are with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation which runs Green Airport.
\"I\'m told that they are going to meet several days this week, and that they are close to begin with,\" Avedisian. \"There are several issues that they are still looking for a resolution on, and I\'m hopeful that by the end of the week they will reach that.\"
