INDIA : HCL Infosystems gets Rs. 278 crore deal from ELCOT

HCL Infosystems has obtained Rs. 278 crore deal from Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (ELCOT).
ELCOT has appointed HCL Infosystems as a leading vendor for Government of Tamil Nadu project - Free Distribution of Laptops to students of Government and State Aided Schools & Colleges across the state. This is the first phase of 5-year project. In first phase, the company will provide 2 lakh laptops out of a total order volume of 9 lakh laptop units.
HCL Infosystems will offer 2 lakh laptops to students in 7 districts of 24 Taluk Offices. It will also establish its Service Centres in all of these Taluks to provide complete maintenance and manage any service requests. This project comes under Tamil Nadu government’s aim to boost the technology in stat’s education system. The project will boost PC adoption among students in the state. The laptops will also run on both Open source BOSS operating system and Microsoft Windows.
