Publish Date : 11-Jul-2017

Lockheed Martin has announced it has received a potential 3-year, $73.8 million contract to start work on Phase II of the U.S. Armys Long Range Precision Fires missile program.

The deal includes the technological maturation and risk cutting phase which will see the company designing and flying prototype missiles in preparation for the engineering and manufacturing development phase.

LRPF has been developed to equip combatant commanders with a long-range missile platform that works to counter time-sensitive targets at a distance of up to 310 miles.

The prototype missile platform comprises a surface-to-surface guided weapon and a launch pod missile container designed for integration with M142 HIMARS and M270A1 MLRS rocket launchers.

Lockheed finished work on Phase I of the program in May.

The conract has been announced a month after Raytheon secured a separate $116.4 million contract for the LRPF programs tech maturation phase.
