Spain : MAPAMA will invest more than 8 million euros in the monitoring of the state of waters and protected areas of the Jucar basin

Publish Date : 02-Sep-2017

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) has tendered an investment of 8.28 million euros for monitoring programs to determine the status and quality of inland waters (rivers, lakes, reservoirs and groundwater ) and control of protected areas in the Jcar basin.

The data needed to determine the state of the waters will be collected in a total of 308 control stations, 252 stations in rivers, 22 stations in lakes, and 34 stations in reservoirs, as well as through 410 annual sampling in groundwater. At these stations, both biological quality elements (invertebrates, diatoms, fish, phytoplankton) are measured; physical and physical-chemical (nitrates, phosphates, pollutants, etc.) as hydromorphological.

Water status monitoring programs are a basic tool for the management of this resource as they provide the necessary information to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs of measures adopted in the basin plans and the degree of compliance with the objectives set . They are also essential for monitoring the quality of water intended for particular uses, including supply.

BIDDING IN ALL WATERCOLORS PAULATINA

This investment, to be carried out during the coming years, will give an effective response to the obligations imposed by the European legislation on water quality, reinforce the environmental management in the different hydrographic demarcations as well as the hydrological planning allowing to improve the state of the masses of water.
