Canada : CDPQ Infra offers Reseau express metropolitain's major contracts
Publish Date : 12-Feb-2018
Developer CDPQ Infra has offered major building and rolling stock contracts for Greater Montreals Reseau express metropolitain (REM) in Canada.
With the agreements in place, the work to build the C$6.3 billion (EUR4 billion) rapid transit system is set to start in April, 2018 two years after the project was announced.
Initial trial will be carried out at the end of 2020 and the first branch of REM will start operating in the summer of 2021.
Engineering, procurement and construction will be supervised by Groupe NouvLR, a group made up of: SNC-Lavalin, Dragados Canada, Groupe Aecon Qubec, Pomerleau, EBC and AECOM.
In the meantime, the Groupe des Partenaires pour la Mobilite des Montrealais group (Alstom Transport Canada and SNC-Lavalin O&M) is in charge of rolling stock, systems, operation and maintenance.
The two selected group will harmonise their plans in the next few months to finalise the schedule of work before construction starts in spring.
Aecon president John Beck stated, This project is a key component of Canadas unprecedented transit build-out and a transformational project for the Greater Montreal Area. For Aecon, this is another historic selection that confirms our strong position in the transit sector.
