A $98 million education deal has been entered by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) with the Federal Government in order to finance bilingual education in Nigeria.
Minister for State Finance, Yerima Lawan Ngama added that through the project students of traditional Islamic schools will be incorporated into formal learning.
He added, \"We are brokering a very interesting programme on bilingual education to have our young children in almajiri schools integrated a little bit more into the standard education system.Being bilingual in both Arabic and English would help them become stronger members of our society. The IDB is helping us finance that. They\'ve also given technical assistant to help our works here but we are also working on a project in the pipeline on the private sector.\"
The bilingual programme will enhance child enrolment and will connect the 2 educational systems, added President of the IDB, Ahmed Mohamed Ali.
This year, a $700 million financing facilities has been prepared by the IDB for Nigeria.
