National Water Company (NWC) has awarded a procurement advisory services to Atkins, as part of a consortium to offer water distribution services in Saudi Arabia.
The consortium is headed by financial consultant Mizuho Bank and backed by legal consultant White & Case from Atkins.
The project is portion of a broader privatisation plan, which centers on customer service, efficiency improvement and cost control, and has been created to bring greater efficiency and guaranteed water supply across the kingdom.
The objective of municipal water segment is to cope with the demand for water and wastewater services of the Kingdoms 32 million residents.
Francois-Xavier Basselot, the market director for SNC-Lavalins Atkins water business in the Middle East and Africa, said: "With significant infrastructure development and forecast growth in cities, towns and communities, the distribution of water and guarantee of supply is critical."
"Through these flagship projects, the NWC, with support from the consortium, will have better water network coverage, better wastewater service coverage and will enable a better understanding about the importance of water conservation," noted Basselot.
"Ultimately this is about ensuring the sustainability of the water sector in the Kingdom," stated the top official.
The agreement covers that Atkins would offer advice on the water sector distribution model, design of the procurement strategy and design of the competitive procurement process for operators.
