Qatar : $1.23billion Qatar New Port dredging project for MEDCO

MEDCO (Middle East Dredging Company QSC) has secured a contract from the New Port Project Steering Committee, worth $1.23bn to dredge the approach channel for the New Port Project in Qatar.
The contract includes the dredging of the basin and the land reclamation for a naval base and also building of the two outer breakwaters on either sides of the channel. Location of the New Port is between Al Wakrah and Mesaeed, south of the Qatari capital Doha.
The works features the dredging of a 20km long access channel and a naval base basin, the land reclamation with dredged materials for around 4.5km2 area for building of the naval base, compaction and ground improvement, as well as constructing rubble mound outer breakwaters on either side of the channel, constructing rock revetment at the perimeter of the naval base, delivery and installation of navigation aids and environment mitigation.
MEDCO\'s self-propelled flagship Al Jarraf, which was recently constructed and delivered in Singapore will be deployed along with deploying of two self-propelled seagoing rock cutter suction dredgers to work on the contract.
The works is scheduled to commence in March 2012 and would conclude by early 2016.
