Poland : Almost PLN 600 million for new trains for Koleje Mazowieckie

Koleje Mazowieckie invests in new trains. The company has just received PLN 580 million from the European Union for the purchase of 55 new trains. The first of them will go to the routes in the Masovian Province in two years.

April 5 Koleje Mazowieckie Sp. z o. o. signed agreements with the Center for EU Transport Projects for co-financing from European Union funds of four projects. Their total value is over PLN 1.4 billion. The Union will contribute PLN 580 million from the Infrastructure and Environment Program.

The contracts assume that in two years 12 new trains will go on the tracks in Mazovia, in three years - another 12, and in four years - as many as 31 new trains. In addition to the purchase itself, the project also includes training of employees regarding the service of new vehicles.

" New trains are good information for the residents of, among others, Zielonki, Wo omin, Mi sk Mazowiecki, Celestynowa, Gra Kalwaria, Skierniewice, Sochaczew or Modlin - the new routes will run in 2022 on routes covering these cities " - says Deputy Minister of Investment and development Witold Slowik .
Formally, the investment was divided into 4 separate projects, each for a different route:

Sochaczew - Warsaw - Celestynw,
Skierniewice - Warsaw - Mi sk Mazowiecki,
Warsaw - Wo omin S oneczna,
Warsaw - Zielonka,
Gra Kalwaria - Czachwek - Warsaw - Modlin.

Thanks to well-written projects, we managed to receive huge funding under the competition announced by the Center for EU Transport Projects. BP and BGK for a loan in the amount of over PLN 1. This agreement is for us a proof of trust and proves that Koleje Mazowieckie is a financially reliable partner " - says Cezary Lewandowski , board member, financial director of the Masovian Railways.

The contracts of Koleje Mazowieckie concern 4 out of 11 investments in the modernization and purchase of trains for rail carriers, which were co-financed from the Infrastructure and Environment Program. On April 4, two contracts were concluded for PKP Intercity and Szybka Kolej Miejska in Warsaw. Contracts for the projects of Koleje Wielkopolskie, Koleje Dolno l skie, SKM Trjmiasto and Podkarpacka Metropolitan Railways have also been signed. The value of these 11 projects is PLN 4 billion, and EU funding PLN 1.6 billion
