Agriculture including forestry and fishing is the backbone of Madagascars economy, accounting for more than one-fourth of GDP and employing 80% of the population. Coffee, vanilla, sugarcane, cloves, cocoa, rice, cassava (tapioca), beans, bananas, peanuts livestock products are prominent products in the country's agricultural sector. The industrial sector of the economy includes textile manufacturing and agricultural products processing, automobile assembly, petroleum and tourism. Apparel exports are an important source of foreign exchange earning for Madagascar. Madagascar's main trading partners are the United States, France, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Iran, Mauritius, and South Africa.
