Peru News

The Peruvian economy has become increasingly market oriented, with major privatizations completed since 1990 in the mining, electricity, and telecommunications industries. Peru's economy reflects its varied geography - an arid coastal region, the Andes further inland, and tropical lands bordering Colombia and Brazil. Plentiful mineral resources are found in the rocky areas, and Peru's coastal waters offer excellent fishing grounds. The major agricultural products include coffee, cotton, sugarcane, rice, wheat, potatoes, corn, plantains, coca, poultry, beef, dairy products, wool and fish. The major industry of Peru includes mining of metals, petroleum, fishing, textiles, clothing, food processing, cement, auto assembly, steel, shipbuilding and metal fabrication.
