Brazil is a leader in science and technology in South America and in some fields a global leader, such as biofuels, agricultural research, deep-sea oil production, and remote sensing. Brazil is the largest recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Latin America, and the United States is traditionally the number one foreign investor in Brazil.
