Peru : New co-financing scheme for the Huancayo-Huancavelica railway project will guarantee the construction and operation of the project

The tender for the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railroad project, one of the most important railway projects in the country and which would benefit more than one million Peruvians, would be tendered in mid-year and awarded in the III Quarter.

This was reported by the MTC vice minister of transport, Carlos Estremadoyro, who pointed out that the new co-financing scheme that incorporates the payment for availability in the tender for this desired project, will ensure that the service is provided continuously and optimally throughout The concession of the project.

Estremadoyro Mory emphasized that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), in its capacity as project grantor, will be responsible for setting the price of passenger transport in order to ensure that the current social rates remain in force. The project, which will require an approximate investment of US $ 233 million (without IGV) in real terms, will benefit more than 1.7 million people in the Junn and Huancavelica regions and with rail transport alone, 75,000 people are expected to benefit 31 communities

This project will mark the route of what can be done later with the San Juan de Marcona-Andahuaylas Railroad Train, the subway lines and the entire railway structure that we are going to develop to close the gap in the system national railway, said the vice minister.

The project consists of the design (definitive studies and environmental certification), financing, execution of works (renovation of existing roads and refurbishment of stations), acquisition of rolling stock (trains), operation and maintenance of the Huancayo - Huancavelica Railway, which ensures a Safe, efficient and comfortable rail transport service for users in the Junn and Huancavelica regions.

The Huancayo - Huancavelica Railroad is one of the highest altitude railways in the world, between 2,819 meters above sea level, at the Mariscal Cceres Station and 3,680 meters above its highest point, at the Huancavelica Station. It has a total of seven (7) stations, nineteen (19) whereabouts, fifteen (15) bridges, thirty-eight (38) tunnels, thirty-seven (37) level crossings along its 128 kilometers of route.
