India : ARMY invites RFI to Design Tanks

Authority sources said, aiming to supplant Soviet-beginning T-72 tanks, the Army has welcomed recommendations from inland and foreign companies for outlining 'Future Ready Combat Vehicle' (FRCV) tanks, fundamentally during an era when DRDO is now dealing with such a venture.

The Army has issued a Request for Information (RFI) welcoming reactions from organizations by July 31 to outline tanks which could supplant the T-72 tanks.

The RFI is interested in both domestic and abroad companies. As per the Army, the best outline will be picked and given to designated creating office for generation of the models.

The chosen model will be given for mass creation to a generation company, which could be a residential agency.

The move is critical as the nation's premier defence research company DRDO is now dealing with a futuristic tank : Future Main Battle Tank (FMBT).

The Army has prior been at loggerheads with the DRDO over the Arjun tank that it had created.

Defence specialists hold the perspective that if the Army goes in for an outside tank, it will ruin the native exertion of about 30 years of planning and building the Arjun tank that can be utilized for making the cutting edge tank.

Inquired some information about Army's RFI, Director of DRDO's Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), which is operating at the FMBT, said, "We have a long-term perspective plan from the Army. We are working on the technology development and will continue with it."
