United States : FRESNO CITY COUNCIL Okays $32.6 MILLION BRT System Contract

Publish Date : 09-Feb-2016

A $32.6 million contract for the construction of a 25.2 km (15.7 mile) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system operating north along Blackstone Avenue and east along Ventura Avenue/Kings Canyon Road has been sanctioned by the Fresno City Council members.

Between both the lines, the central station will be placed at Courthouse Park and the system, known as Q, will count a total of 51 bus stops, allowing buses frequency in every 10-15 minutes with priority at traffic lights via queue jump lanes.

Adolph Teichert & Son Inc has submitted the approved bid valuing $4.4 million over the councils engineering estimates

However, decision has to be made on cuts to the winning bid like $1.2 million for bus stop shelters; $1.9 for communication equipment; $1.1 million to buy pre-owned ticket vending machines in place of new ones, etc, so as to fit it in the available budget. This might take a couple of weeks.

City Council staff will also pursue additional grants to help cover the extra cost of the project.

Starting in March, the construction will last till October 2017.

Adolph Teichert & Son Inc. is a 125 year old company based in Fresno that operates in the highway and street construction industry.
