India : District completes wheat procurement but commission agents not paid!

Publish Date : 31-May-2016

It has been nearly a month since the district completed wheat procurement, but still most of the city's ahrtiyas (commission agents) have not received their payment.

Without any commission given to them, the ahrtiyas had to pay labourers from their own pockets.

The purchase of wheat in the grain market of Jalandhar began on April 11.

The commission of commission agents has not been paid, even after around 2 lakh bags of wheat were bought from the grain market by the procurement agencies including, Markfed, PUNGRAIN, and PUNSUN.

President, Ahrtiya Association, Jalandhar, Kashmiri Lal, said, "The ahrtiyas were assured that the payment of their commission will be provided without any delay. The commission agents in the grain markets are yet to receive around Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh as commission. We have paid the labourers from our own pockets."

He noted that the same situation was being faced by commission agents in other parts of the district.

Another ahrtiya, Joginder Singh, said, "I am yet to receive Rs 90,000 commission from the government. We have plenty of expenses. The situation has never been as bad as it is now."
