Publish Date : 29-Jun-2016

The Southeast Iowa Regional Airport is set reopen bids to build a new hangar and apron.

The airport authority board agreed to look for a contractor to build a stand-alone two-unit hangar for about $383,000.

Sited on the south side of the airport terminal, the 68,000 square-foot apron, will also be renovated.

The concrete pad, built in 1946, shows significant wear with weeds sprouting between cracks in the pavement. Airport director Mary Beaird said the project would be completed next spring. Beaird added, "I feel like we're at a really good point here and made a lot of progress today."

At the start of June, the airport had received a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.

10% of the grant must be matched with local funds.
